The deadly shots in Paris have shaken France. Now it has been confirmed that the alleged perpetrator acted out of racist motives. For years he had “been wanting to kill foreigners,” said the 69-year-old.

After the deadly attack near a Kurdish cultural center in Paris, the alleged perpetrator admitted to a “pathological hatred of foreigners.” This was announced by the Paris public prosecutor. The 69-year-old Frenchman was arrested by the police after the fatal shooting.

Since a burglary six years ago, the man “always wanted to kill migrants or foreigners,” according to the public prosecutor. A racist motive had already been included in the investigation into intentional killing and serious violence on Christmas Eve.

hatred of foreigners

According to prosecutors, the man originally wanted to attack people in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, which is heavily influenced by migrants. He went there armed “to commit murders of foreigners,” it said. Then he abandoned his plan because there were only a few people on site and he could not easily reload his gun because of his clothes.

Instead, he fired several shots at a Kurdish community center on Friday, killing three people. Three other people were injured in the attack in the tenth arrondissement of Paris. According to the Kurdish umbrella organization Kurdish Democratic Council in France (CDK-F), all the victims are Kurdish activists.

Riots in several cities

On Christmas Eve, there were clashes with the police on the fringes of a peaceful demonstration to commemorate the three dead. At least four cars were knocked over, at least one of which was set on fire. Garbage cans also burned and bus stops were destroyed.

Members of the Kurdish minority also took to the streets in Marseille. There were also clashes with the police here.
