A first phew of relief … All the players in the Spanish football selection tested negative for Covid-19 on Monday, after their captain Sergio Busquets tested positive the day before, announced the Spanish Federation (RFEF). “All the players, the staff and the entire delegation of the national team have tested negative during the PCR tests carried out on Monday”, explained the RFEF in a press release.

The federation adds that “the medical services of the RFEF will continue to carry out preventive tests on all the players summoned for the Euro”, in the coming days.

A “spread” training for selection

La Roja is due to start her European adventure on Monday, June 14 against Sweden in Seville, for her entry into Group E of the competition where she will also meet Poland and Slovakia. The results released on Monday are a little breath of fresh air after the alert triggered by the positive test of the new captain and Barça player Sergio Busquets.

As a result, the players “trained in a staggered fashion with an individualized work routine monitored by the technical staff of the selection” on Monday.

Enrique calls five reservists

Spain coach Luis Enrique called five reservists in the La Roja group on Monday to compensate for possible packages. Defender Raul Albiol (Villarreal), 2010 world champion, Leeds striker Rodrigo Moreno and midfielders Pablo Fornals (West Ham), Carlos Soler (Valencia) and Brais Méndez (Celta Vigo) have been called up “in anticipation of the consequences that could lead to the positive test ”of Sergio Busquets, indicates the Spanish federation (RFEF) in a press release.

They will be placed in a separate health bubble and will train under Luis Enrique at different times from other internationals, specifies the RFEF.
