There would be no Lent, and certainly no Holy Week without the “St Matthew Passion” and the “St John Passion” by Johann Sebastian Bach. Only the Alte Oper in Frankfurt is giving up this year. The “Passion Oratorio” by Johann Sebastian Bach can be heard there on April 1st. Not known? No wonder, since this is the premiere of a work that Bach – scholars have been arguing about for a long time – either did not complete or did not even write.
