After hearing a gunshot, the emergency doctor on the set of “Rust” was called for help. In her report, she describes how she tried to save Halyna Hutchins.
After the tragic accident on the set of the western “Rust”, in which Alec Baldwin accidentally shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins, the biggest questions are gradually being clarified. The reports of eyewitnesses help, such as director Joel Souza or, most recently, set doctor Cherlyn Schaefer.
This is how the set doctor describes the Baldwin case
She heard the shot from Baldwin’s prop gun, but was not on location at the time, but outside the church. “Are we rehearsing? Because ‘fire in the hole’ was not called,” she explains in her report. “Fire in the hole” is the exclamation on set when explosive material is used. When she heard it was a medical emergency, she ran to the church where Baldwin, Hutchins and the rest of the crew were staying.
She saw Halyna Hutchins, who had been hit in the chest area, and told those around to put pressure on the wound and call 911. She herself put an oxygen mask on Hutchins and checked her vital signs. Despite her intervention, the 42-year-old camerawoman did not survive. She was flown by helicopter to a nearby hospital in Albuquerque, where she was pronounced dead.
Discussion about guns on the set
The tragic accident on the set sparked a discussion in Hollywood about guns on the set. A petition calling for real guns to be banned from the set won nearly 50,000 signatures.
In addition, some filmmakers, including Eric Kripke, showrunner of the Amazon series “The Boys”, assured that from now on there will no longer be any real weapons on his sets. And director Craig Zobel stated that there were no more real revolvers in his series “Mare of Easttown”. “There is no longer any reason to have guns loaded with blank cartridges or the like on the set. They should just be banned completely. There are computers now. The shots in ‘Mare of Easttown’ are all digital. You can probably tell, but who cares “It’s an unnecessary risk,” he said.
