In October, Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the western “Rust”. Since then, the actor has defended himself publicly and given a television interview. Hutchins’ father criticizes it.

In a major TV interview a few weeks ago, Alec Baldwin explained how he saw the tragic death of Halyna Hutchins. In October, the camerawoman was fatally hit by a bullet from Baldwin’s prop weapon and died a short time later in hospital.

Halyna Hutchins’ father doesn’t understand Alec Baldwin

Baldwin last stated that he hadn’t pulled the trigger and didn’t know how real cartridges got onto the set of the western “Rust”. He tearfully reported on television that Hutchins was a friend. The father of the deceased, Anatoly Androsovych, shows little understanding for Baldwin and his statements. “I can’t understand Alec’s behavior,” he said.

“Why did he fire the shot during rehearsals? The revolver is the type of weapon that doesn’t fire until the trigger is pulled, and Alec is complicit in creating that shot,” he clarified. Baldwin’s saying he didn’t pull the trigger doesn’t seem like a sufficient explanation for Androsovych.

Investigations are ongoing

“It is clear to me that Baldwin fired the shot, so it is difficult to understand that he cannot be held responsible for my daughter’s death,” he said of his view of things. He also talked about his grandson, who is now a half-orphan. He is slowly finding “back to life”, but it is questionable whether he would ever recover from it, says Androsovych.

The prop weapon was presented to Baldwin by assistant director Dave Halls. Halls told him it was a “cold weapon”, that is, one without ammunition. While rehearsing a scene, Baldwin was aiming towards the camera – and thus Halyna Hutchins – when a shot went off. Not only Hutchins but also director Joel de Souza was hit. He too had to go to the hospital and survived the tragic accident. The Santa Fe police investigation is still ongoing.
