US film star Alec Baldwin shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins while filming with a prop gun. According to Ufa boss Nico Hofmann, something like this could also happen in this country.

Accidents during filming are more common. A death like on the set of the western “Rust” with Hollywood star Alec Baldwin is extremely rare. The film producer Nico Hofmann nevertheless believes that such a disaster could also happen in Germany. Such an incident could not be ruled out in this country either, said the 61-year-old of the German press agency. Guns on the film set are always dangerous.

“But the case in the USA has to do with the fact that there is a different way of handling weapons than here,” Hofmann clarified. In addition, the law always applies to film sets that a weapon should never be aimed directly at another person, but at someone.

Baldwin shot with a prop gun while filming Rust, fatally injuring 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Director Joel Souza (48) was hospitalized with injuries. According to police investigations, there was live ammunition in the prop weapon. On Saturday, Baldwin made public statements in front of reporters for the first time after the fatal shot.

Hofmann is one of the most important film and television producers in Germany (“Our Mothers, Our Fathers”, “Ku’damm 56”) and is the managing director of the Ufa film production company based in Potsdam.
