Alan Menken created the Disney soundtracks of the 90s: “The stories are my babies”

Almost all children of the 90s probably grew up with his music: “Arielle”, “Aladdin”, “Beauty and the Beast” – all of these Disney classics were written by composer Alan Menken. He met him before the world premiere of the musical “Hercules”. star for the interview.

Mr. Menken, “Hercules” will be another one of yours Disney-Classics brought to the stage. What is the most exciting thing for you about bringing the pieces from the screen to the stage?
You take the DNA of a story and create something new from it. Other people join the creative team with whom we have to ask ourselves anew: What do we love about the piece? What touches us stylistically? What is the emotional common thread? Each of these people brings their own signature and their own strengths. And so something new is built on the original, which still has connections to the origin. This process is different and exciting every time because you never know how and where this dynamic will unfold.
