Edson Alvarez has a contract with Ajax until 2024 – but actress Salma Hayek wanted to lure him to Stade Rennes in the summer.
Ajax’s Mexico star Edson Alvarez has revealed that Hollywood actress and compatriot Salma Hayek wanted to make a move to Ligue 1 to Stade Rennes palatable to him.
“Yes, that’s right,” Alvarez told im De Telegraaf. “She called me and wanted to convince me to move to France. That surprised and flattered me, but I chose Ajax and explained it to her.”

Hayek is married to Rennes owner and billionaire Francois-Henri Pinault and would have liked to see Alvarez at her husband’s club, who wanted to sign the 23-year-old defensive man in the summer.
“She is a great and famous actress and I value her very much. She is a role model because as a Mexican she made it to where she is today,” continued Alvarez. “It was very difficult to cancel Rennes, but in the end I had no doubts.”
