Airport worker seriously injured in bird scaring operation

Firefighters, called to the scene shortly before 9 a.m., immediately transported him to the hand clinic. A 49-year-old man was “seriously injured” by a firearm on Monday morning in Bouguenais near Nantes, as part of a bird scaring operation organized near Nantes-Atlantique airport.

According to the departmental fire and rescue service, the man hit in the hand would be an employee of the airport. “The weapon was neutralized by the demining services”, indicates Sdis 44.

Scaring operations aim to reduce the risk of collision between birds and aircraft. These collisions can sometimes cause air accidents.
