Airbus is desperately looking for employees

After the corona pandemic, Airbus wants to fly high!

The aircraft manufacturer is looking for more than 1,000 new employees by 2023 to boost production. In 2025 alone, 75 A320 aircraft are to roll out of the production halls.

“We are also hiring accordingly,” said the head of the new structure assembly subsidiary Airbus Aerostructures, André Walter. “We hired 700 permanent employees and around 1,400 temporary workers last year and this year.”

According to Walter, that’s not enough. In Nordenham on the Weser alone, 150 new jobs are to be created by the middle of next year. In Hamburg, the second largest Airbus location after Toulouse (France), there are even to be 800 to 1000 jobs in the same period.

For comparison: A total of 21,450 people work at Airbus in Germany in civil aircraft production, 8,400 of them in Hamburg, Bremen, Nordenham and Stade.

But Walter has problems finding enough qualified people at all. “We can’t just hire from the market, you have to have a production license with us, which you then have to acquire in a practical phase before you can actually build an aircraft,” says the Airbus manager.

To make matters worse, the aircraft manufacturer is not the only one looking for skilled workers. “Other industries and sectors have picked up drastically in the past few months, which means that qualified skilled workers are being sought everywhere and of course we are in competition there.” (nko)
