Microsoft Germany is getting a new boss: Austrian-born Agnes Heftberger will take over as Corporate Vice President on April 15, 2024. She succeeds Marianne Janik, who worked for Microsoft for 13 years, as Germany boss since November 2020. Her successor Agnes Heftberger has had a long career at competitor IBM. Most recently, she led IBM’s operations in Australia, Southeast Asia, Korea and New Zealand. Before that, she was Vice President of Sales for Germany, Austria and Switzerland and a member of the management team at IBM Germany. Her boss, the head of Microsoft’s business in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, Ralph Haupter, praises Heftberger as an “experienced leader.” Her global perspective and experience is “particularly important at a time when AI is changing the innovation and production process in many industries.” Microsoft Germany recently announced the largest investment in its 40-year history in Germany. The company wants to invest 4.5 billion euros in the Rhenish lignite mining area, and the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia are adding hundreds of millions of euros.
