More than 15 patrol cars were looking for a potentially dangerous man on Tuesday night. The Munich police had previously been warned about the 25-year-old who had traveled from Denmark. With the help of his mobile phone and extensive investigations by many emergency services, the man was discovered shortly after midnight at the central bus station (ZOB) on Hackerbrücke and overwhelmed. According to Danish authorities, there were indications that the man wanted to endanger himself and others.
His family environment is said to have drawn the Danish police’s attention to the man. Police say he is also suffering from a mental illness. But there are no links to Islamist or terrorist motives, the police said. It is unclear why the man was in Munich. A backpack he had parked was also discovered at the ZOB. The station was cordoned off over a large area for further examination of the backpack.
The backpack was examined with the support of special forces from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office. According to the police, a knife, an ax and a gas cartridge were found in it in addition to clothing and sleeping clothes. The items were secured. The 25-year-old was first taken to a police station and reported for disturbing the public peace by threatening to commit a crime. He was also placed in a psychiatric hospital. The Munich criminal police have started further investigations.
