The Senate with a right-wing majority adopted Friday, July 29, in first reading, the “emergency” bill in favor of purchasing power, after having amended it. This text, one of the first of the new legislature, must mitigate the effects of inflation and the energy crisis.

The text was voted on by a show of hands, thanks to the votes in particular of the LR, centrist and RDPI groups with a majority LREM. It provides for a series of measures ranging from the revaluation of pensions to the deconjugalization of the disabled adult allowance through the tripling of the ceiling of the “Macron bonus”.

On Thursday, the senators maintained their refusal to perpetuate this new “Macron bonus” for all companies, limiting it, against the advice of the government, to those with less than 50 employees. That same day, the government did not object to another amendment made by the Senate: the splitting of the bonus will be limited to four installments, to prevent it from replacing salary increases.

From Monday, the senators will embark on the amending budget (PLFR) for 2022, the hypothesis of a tax on “superprofits”, carried in particular by the centrists, risking to strain the debates.

The same day, deputies and senators will meet in a joint committee to try to agree on a common version of the purchasing power bill, the government expecting a final adoption of the two texts no later than August 7.
