After the Garmisch train accident, work begins on the railway line – Bavaria

Almost three months after the serious train accident in Garmisch-Partenkirchen with five dead, the main work to repair the railway line started on Monday. “The preparatory work was completed last week, so the main work started today,” said a railway spokesman on request.

When school starts in mid-September, trains are supposed to run again at the site of the accident, but according to railway information from last week, it will probably only last around three weeks. After that, there will probably be extensive track construction work on the Weilheim-Murnau-Garmisch route until November 14th.

Four women and a 13-year-old died in the accident in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, many people were injured, some seriously. A few weeks later, Deutsche Bahn began checking and replacing around 200,000 concrete sleepers nationwide. According to the railway, the components are the same type of construction as on the section of the train that crashed.

According to the information, there are currently restrictions for passengers at around 165 points in the rail network, especially in Bavaria, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
