After the G7 summit: collecting in Elmau – Bavaria

Two prisoners in a container, 18 bags of garbage and costs of almost 200 million euros: the G-7 summit was extremely peaceful. Elmau is now returning to normal operations, only the police come again with a large contingent – to collect garbage.

On Thursday there was another major police operation around Schloss Elmau. Almost three weeks after the G-7 summit in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where at least 18,000 police officers were supposed to protect state guests, residents and protest actions, a unit of the riot police combed the area around the castle. A number of high-ranking officials were also involved in the action, led personally by the Rosenheim police chief and summit leader Manfred Hauser. However, the aim of the search was not to find any serious threats to the safety of state guests to justify the presence, which was generally perceived as huge. Rather, the police officers should also find the last pieces of chewing gum wrappers and plastic bags on Thursday, which could have been left behind from the end of June. Because Hauser had repeatedly assured that the police would leave everything in the region as they found it. As far as the summit as a whole is concerned, such a promise could of course not be kept.
