US President Biden threatened the bombers with retaliation after the attacks in Kabul. The American soldiers who died were heroes. The US evacuation flights should continue. The US was not intimidated.

US President Joe Biden has announced retaliation after the deadly attacks in the Afghan capital Kabul. “We will not forgive. We will not forget,” said Biden at a press conference in the White House addressed to those responsible for the attacks. “We will hunt you down and make you pay for it.”

The USA blames the jihadist militia “Islamic State” for the double attack in front of the airport in Kabul, in which, among other things, 13 US soldiers were killed. So far, IS has taken responsibility for a suicide attack.

Military should work out plans for counter-attack

Biden said he had instructed the US armed forces to prepare plans for attacks against the regional IS branch of Khorasan Province (ISKP) – known as ISIS-K in the US. “We will answer with force and precision (…) where and when we choose.”

Biden paid tribute to the US soldiers killed in the double attack as “heroes”. They were involved in a “dangerous, selfless mission” to “save the lives of others”. It was the first time since February 2020 that US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan.

US evacuation operation continues

In his address, Biden also affirmed that the ongoing evacuation operation to rescue US citizens and Afghan local staff would be continued. “We can and must complete this mission and we will,” said the president. “We won’t let terrorists scare us off. We won’t let them stop our mission.” The US wants to end the military operation by August 31st – next Tuesday – and by then get as many people as possible out of the country.
