After shark attack in Australia: police search for body of surfer

Police in Australia are searching for the body of a surfer who is believed to have died in a shark attack. “The man’s body has not yet been found and the search resumed this morning,” police in South Australia state said on Wednesday. Accordingly, the 55-year-old surfer disappeared on Tuesday morning near the popular surfing area Granites Beach.

Hai was “as long as a limousine.”

Ian Brophy told local newspaper The Advertiser that he saw a shark “charge and bite” and drag the man under the water, with “blood everywhere.” He had witnessed the incident. “I saw him in the wave and the shark had his body in its mouth – it was cruel,” he explained. After a few minutes, only the victim’s surfboard was visible. The shark probably swallowed him whole, he added. Another witness told ABC television that the shark was “as long as a limousine.”

The coast of South Australia is known for being home to great white sharks. In May, a teacher was bitten to death by a shark. The incident happened just about 120 kilometers from the site of Tuesday’s attack.
