After series of thefts: Sir Mark Jones new director of the Bristish Museum – Culture

Ittai Gradel’s arrival in London this Wednesday is awaited with great excitement. The Danish art historian and antiques dealer is playing a key role in uncovering the unprecedented series of thefts at the British Museum that forced its director, Hartwig Fischer, to resign two weeks ago. Gradel first sounded the alarm in 2021 after coming across some artifacts from the museum’s collection on Ebay. However, the management had not responded to the 58-year-old with the necessary urgency. Jonathan Williams, who is currently on hiatus as deputy director, dismissed Gradel’s request for review as baseless.
