Sievjerodonetsk threatened encirclement

Lysychansk’s twin city across the river – Sieverodonetsk – has reportedly not been fully captured by Russian forces. The fighting will continue there. The dpa news agency reports that, according to the British secret service, there is still a risk of the strategically important city being surrounded.

The Russian troops continued their efforts to close the ring around Sieverodonetsk. “In the past 24 hours, Russian forces have probably continued to try to gain the upper hand on the Popasna axis, from which they want to encircle the Sievarodonetsk pocket from the south,” says the daily update on the Ukraine war on the website of the British Ministry of Defence.

Chemical plant almost completely destroyed

Sieverodonetsk is also home to the embattled Azot chemical plant. It is said to have been almost completely destroyed by Russian artillery and rocket fire. “There are no surviving administrative buildings on the territory of the chemical giant,” military governor Hajdaj told Telegram.

Nevertheless, according to Ukrainian information, there are still soldiers and hundreds of civilians on the site. An evacuation is not possible because of the ongoing Russian shelling.

Attack on Russian ship in the Black Sea

According to the authorities, Ukrainian forces hit a Russian Navy tugboat with rockets in the Black Sea. This is reported by several news agencies. According to dpa, there has not yet been any confirmation from the Russian fleet.

According to the information, it is the “Wassili Beg”. The ship is said to have been with soldiers, weapons and ammunition on its way to Snake Island, south of the port city of Odessa, which has been occupied by Russia since the end of February. Information on whether and how many people were injured is not yet available. According to Ukrainian data, the ship was heavily confirmed.

Dead and injured in Mykolaiv

Another Russian rocket attack is said to have taken place in southern Ukraine, on the city of Mykolaiv. According to regional governor Vitaly Kim, two people were killed and 20 injured, including a child. Four residential buildings and an infrastructure facility were damaged.

According to the Russian Presidential Office, the main goal of what Russia calls the “special military operation” in Ukraine remains the “protection of the population” in Donbass. The region must be saved from “barbaric attacks” by the Ukrainian armed forces, said Presidential Office spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
