They found common ground. Hunter Biden will finally be heard on February 28 by two parliamentary committees dominated by the Republican majority as part of the investigation into impeachment launched Joe Biden.
Businessmen now converted to painting and doubly indicted by federal justice, Hunter Biden, 53, is one of the favorite targets of Republican opponents, a few months before the November presidential election for which his father represents itself. Hunter Biden will appear for “a deposition on February 28” before the Judicial Affairs Committee and the Oversight Committee in the House of Representatives, with a Republican majority, their two bosses announced in a joint press release.
“Hunter’s testimony will come after several interviews with members of the Biden family and relatives,” added Jim Jordan and James Comer. However, they did not specify whether the hearing would take place behind closed doors or not, a point of contention with Hunter Biden.
Surprise appearance
Last week, both committees recommended that he be convicted of obstructing Congress’ investigative powers for refusing to participate in a closed-door hearing into his overseas financial interests. He demands a public hearing. He made a surprise appearance in the gallery, with a parliamentary hearing which turned into a circus.
Indicted for tax evasion and illegal possession of a weapon, Hunter Biden, whose past is strewn with addictions, pleaded not guilty to these two charges.
The two commissions also accuse him of having done questionable business in Ukraine and China by capitalizing on his father’s networks and name.
Conservatives in the House have also launched an impeachment investigation against Joe Biden, whom they accuse of having used his influence when he was Barack Obama’s vice-president (2009-2017) to allow his son Hunter to lead these affairs abroad. The president and his son deny these accusations outright.
