The sci-fi cult film “Barbarella” is getting a new edition. The main character is embodied by series star Sydney Sweeney.

“Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney (25) has landed a new film role: The US actress will play the eponymous main character in a new “Barbarella” film from Sony Pictures. The film will be based on the comics of the same name by French artist Jean-Claude Forest (1930-1998), just like the 1968 science fiction film by French director Roger Vadim (1928-2000). It starred Jane Fonda (84 ) the titular heroine.

Her first husband, Roger Vadim, made Fonda a sex symbol with “Barbarella”. In the strip, which became a cult film, astronaut Barbarella travels through the galaxy in the year 40,000 and experiences numerous and above all erotic adventures. She is looking for a scientist whom she should stop from developing a dangerous weapon.

Sweeney seems very excited about her new role: “It’s time to save the universe,” explains the actress in an Instagram post and posted a picture of the comic book character she will embody. The 25-year-old is said to be part of the project according to “Deadline” will also be on board as an executive producer. Apart from that, the film is still in development, an author or director should not have been found yet.
