After the death of a 22-year-old in the Easter fire in Beckedorf (Celle district), the police are investigating negligent bodily harm and negligent homicide. A tree had fallen into the crowd.
This year the tree was crooked, a witness who did not want to be named told NDR Lower Saxony. The fire department therefore asked surrounding people to leave the area near the fire. The local fire chief did not want to comment to NDR Lower Saxony. According to the police, they are now investigating why the six meter high tree finally fell into the crowd.
Many details are still unclear
The Beckedorf village youth will be the organizer of the Easter fire. The group has not yet wanted to comment to NDR. Whether the tree was buried in the Easter fire or was supported by other tree trunks and whether there was barrier tape around the fire – the police have not yet provided any information on any of these questions.
Police are looking for witnesses, photos and videos
The Celle police have now called on visitors to the Easter bonfire in Beckedorf to come forward and, if necessary, provide photos and videos of the event. “It doesn’t matter whether you were there from the beginning or whether you were there at the time of the accident,” police spokeswoman Ulrike Trumtrar told NDR. The officers have the number (05141) 27 74 00 an information telephone was switched on.
22-year-old died in hospital
According to police, the tree fell into the surrounding crowd around 10 p.m. on Saturday. A 22-year-old woman was so seriously injured that she died in hospital two days later. A 23-year-old woman was seriously injured and a man of the same age was slightly injured. Both are still in the hospital, police said on Wednesday.
