After burnout: how exercise calms my mind

Sport is much more than just a hobby for columnist Franziska Wallner after her severe burnout. Depending on the type of sport, it gets you going, strengthens your concentration or gives your mind the necessary rest.

From the outside, you might think that there is one part of my life that burnout hasn’t changed: my love of sports. Long before the burnout, my favorite vacation days were those when I was mainly on the move, switching between the beach volleyball court and the outdoor pool or still going to the gym in the evening after a day of skiing. When I was diagnosed with exhaustion depression almost exactly eight years ago, which quickly escalated into a severe depressive episode including an anxiety disorder, it was also sport that helped me to get well again. Sport is still a natural part of my life today.
