A suspected ex-member of the Russian mercenary group Wagner fled to Norway and was arrested there. According to the police, he should be released subject to conditions. He apparently wants to unpack about the mercenary group.
A high-ranking mercenary from the Russian Wagner Group who fled to Norway is released there after his arrest. Russian citizen Andrei Medvedev was arrested on Sunday evening on suspicion of illegal entry.
He was due to be released from a detention center today on condition that he stay at a specific location. This was announced by the immigration unit of the police. You can no longer detain him under the immigration law.
Medvedev is said to have been a member of the Wagner Group for months in 2022 before fleeing to Norway and applying for asylum. The Norwegian National Criminal Service, which is involved in investigating war crimes in Ukraine, said it is interviewing Medvedev, who has witness status.

In a video published on Gulagu.net, Medvedev expressed fears that he would be brutally killed if he were sent back to Russia. However, the Norwegian authorities have not yet stated that they intend to do so. Medvedev reportedly told Gulagu.net that he was willing to open up about the mercenary group and its boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Prigozhin, who has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, recruited thousands of inmates from Russian prisons for the war against Ukraine.
He promised the prisoners that they would be released after the end of their contract, but at the same time threatened summary executions if they tried to escape.
