Sony has introduced two new smartphones in the Xperia series. The Xperia 1 IV is aimed more at high-end consumers, while the Xperia 10 IV is significantly cheaper. But the announcement also revealed a trend that Samsung and Apple have been following for quite some time. For customers, this means that if you don’t have a USB-C cable at home and you buy a new Xperia smartphone, you have to purchase a charging cable and charging adapter separately. This decision had already caused problems for long-time fans at Samsung and Apple.

Like the other smartphone manufacturers, Sony justifies the decision with an eye on the environment. According to this, the packaging of the two Xperia models was made completely without plastic and was significantly smaller, since the accessories in the form of the charging cable are now eliminated. This means that more smartphones can be transported per delivery, which should lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions.
The step should probably also prevail for future Xperia smartphones. After all, if you already have a USB-C cable, you won’t have more cables lying around in drawers after buying an Xperia smartphone.
