France Insoumise sees red. While Emmanuel Macron and the head of the majority list Valérie Hayer appeared together for the first time since the start of this electoral period, this Wednesday, the President of the Republic took advantage of the traditional meeting of the centrist group Renew, in Brussels to provide his support, in front of the cameras, to the one he has designated. He further urged his troops to build “a strong Europe, a strong France, in a stronger and fairer Europe”.
A call supposed to revitalize the Mayennaise campaign, which is struggling in the polls. The opportunity for the Head of State to attack the nationalists head on: “There are a lot of fears and worries in the moment we are living and these angers always benefit the most simplistic responses.” “We have the right candidate and above all the good ideas”, he also rejoiced. If Emmanuel Macron held, as is customary, a press briefing, the video of his intervention, with Valérie Hayer, was immediately published on the presidency’s X account.
Enough to provoke the wrath of La France Insoumise. At the end of the evening, party coordinator Manuel Bompard castigated “the use of the means of the Élysée to campaign for the list supported by the president”. Which would be, according to the LFI deputy, “contrary to electoral financing rules”. An error, he jokes, which pushes this loyalist of Jean-Luc Mélenchon to contact the National Commission for Campaign Accounts and Political Financing (CNCCFP). Asked about the relevance of the procedure, the majority replied that Emmanuel Macron only answered a question. He made no speech or solemn intervention to praise the merits of the one who wears the colors of his camp.
