After a new death at Remiremont hospital, an association calls on the Minister of Health

One death, one more. A new suspicious death was recorded last week at Remiremont hospital (Vosges), an establishment which has been the subject of a dozen complaints filed by patients’ families since 2022.

Faced with this situation, an association of relatives of people who died in similar circumstances in the same place asked the Minister of Health Aurélien Rousseau on Monday to come and observe the “abominable conditions” in which the staff of this establishment work.

“Mr. Aurélien Rousseau, we ask you to come in the coming hours or days, on behalf of all the patients, the victims, the members of the association, the caregivers who work in abominable conditions but also all the Vosges residents. We are asking for a local, quality hospital,” declared one of the association’s lawyers, Nancy Risacher.

“Not isolated facts but systemic dysfunctions”

Angélique Souque, president of the association “AJC for them”, accompanied by her sisters Jennifer and Céline, wanted to warn about “the slowness of justice” after these numerous complaints and to “question” the Minister of Health “on the seriousness of such dysfunctions within the public hospital”.

“It has been eighteen months since the first complaint was filed and we are faced with a wall of silence: whether from the hospital, elected officials, the ARS [agence régionale de santé] or justice,” castigated Me Risacher. “None of the complainants were interviewed at the level of investigation,” she added, regretting the “real obstacle course” consisting of recovering the medical files of their loved ones.

“We are going to move up a gear, with a fight before the Nancy administrative court,” warned his colleague David Guyon. “Difficult to think that it is only a question of the law of series, as suggested by our deputy (LR) Stéphane Viry,” continued Angélique Souque.

“These are not isolated facts but systemic dysfunctions,” pointed out Mr. Guyon. “Today, we wish to obtain compensation and conviction from the hospital”, but above all “to prevent other tragedies from occurring”.
