Kay-Achim Schönbach, vice admiral and until recently inspector of the navy, is now the face of the German confusion in Ukraine: hesitant, soothing, with an almost esoteric mixture of geopolitical emotionality and religious conspiracy. As a Christian, he wants to join forces with Orthodoxy against China; he loses himself in murmurs of great power and gestures of submission versus Moscow, as if the allocation of political fishing grounds were part of the German Navy’s paddling pool strategy. That’s pathetic.
