ADAC study: Pedestrians feel particularly safe in Munich – Munich

A study by the ADAC shows that pedestrians feel particularly safe in Munich compared to the rest of the country. A feeling of security is particularly noticeable in the area of pedestrian lights and zebra crossings. The city also stands out positively when it comes to winter and gritting services. The condition of the sidewalks in Munich is even rated as the best in a nationwide comparison.

However, one nuisance for residents is that bicycles, e-scooters and motorcycles parked on sidewalks often block their path. In general, 53 percent of those surveyed are of the opinion that e-scooter drivers are the most reckless on the road, followed by cyclists at 49 percent and other pedestrians at 34 percent.

Drivers only cause dissatisfaction among just under a third of the pedestrians surveyed. However, according to the ADAC, they are by far the main victims of collisions with pedestrians. But that doesn’t mean that drivers are always to blame. “Unfortunately, pedestrians often endanger themselves,” says ADAC traffic expert Alexander Kreipl, according to a press release. They were distracted by cell phones and headphones. Traffic rules are also not that important to them.
