The German actress Leonie Benesch (31) is one of the ten European “Shooting Stars” who will be honored at the next Berlinale (February 16-26, 2023). This was announced by the European Film Promotion network on Wednesday. The jury was impressed by Benesch’s portrayal of an idealistic teacher in the film “The Teacher’s Room” by director Ilker Catak. “She shows a noblesse and sincerity of character that transcends school life and leaves the audience guessing what will happen next,” it said. The film is slated to come out next year.

At the age of 18, Benesch had already acted in Michael Haneke’s award-winning film “The White Ribbon”. In 2018 she received the German Acting Award for her role as Greta in the series “Babylon Berlin”.

Other “Shooting Stars 2023” honored are Joely Mbundu (Belgium), Alina Tomnikov (Finland), Thorvaldur Kristjansson (Iceland), Benedetta Porcaroli (Italy), Yannick Jozefzoon (Netherlands), Kristine Kujath Thorp (Norway), Judith State (Romania). ), Gizem Erdogan (Sweden) and Kayije Kagame (Switzerland).

Former German “Shooting Stars” include Daniel Brühl, Anna Maria Mühe, Moritz Bleibtreu, Jella Haase and Albrecht Schuch. Emilio Sakraya was selected last year.
