Is the cinema over? Ulrich Matthes believes in a future: “You want to have great feelings together with other people,” says the actor.

According to the actor Ulrich Matthes, the cinema will remain alongside the streaming services.

“It’s just a huge difference sitting in front of a screen together,” said the 63-year-old on the sidelines of the German Film Prize. People have a need for togetherness, which was particularly noticeable during the corona pandemic.

“You want to have great feelings with other people,” said Matthes. This not only applies to going to the cinema, but also to going to the theater or football stadium. But he also noticed that people had become a little more reluctant to go to the cinema because of the pandemic.

Matthes belongs to the ensemble of the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. He was President of the German Film Academy for three years. This year, the actress Alexandra Maria Lara (43) and the director Florian Gallenberger (50) replaced him. The German Film Prize was awarded on Friday evening and is considered the most important national award in the industry.
