Anyone who has seen “Winnetou” knows him: Ralf Wolter. He played the role of the likeable-confused trapper Sam Hawkens. He was also seen in “Tatort” and many other films. The actor passed away at the age of 95.
The film and television actor Ralf Wolter is dead. The star of numerous Karl May films died at the age of 95, as his wife confirmed to the dpa news agency. She did not provide any further information.
Alongside “Winnetou” actor Pierre Brice, Wolter celebrated his greatest successes in the 1960s – in the role of Sam Hawkens. In 1962, the character of the sympathetically confused trapper appeared for the first time in “Der Schatz im Silbersee”. Many viewers also associate Wolter with the role of a second Karl May character: that of Haji Halef Omar Ben Haji Abul Abbas Ibn Haji Dawuhd al Gossarah.
From Billy Wilder to “Schloss am Wörthersee”
The actor was also seen in many other films and TV productions. In Billy Wilder’s comedy “One, Two, Three,” for example, he played a Soviet agent. Later he was mainly seen in TV series, for example in “Tatort”, in “Der Alte” or “Ein Schloss am Wörthersee”. He had his last appearance in a film in 2012 in the comedy “Unto the Horizon, Then Left”.
The actor, who has lived in Munich for many decades, was born in Berlin. His father was a circus artist, his mother a musician. After attending drama school, Wolter began as a cabaret artist. Theater stations were stages in Berlin and Potsdam, later Munich.
