What’s worth streaming now, including the new season of the series “Bridgerton”.

Big feelings, terrible memories and a dream about the theater – all of this will be available to stream in the coming days.

“Bridgerton 3” (Netflix)

It’s crackling again: The historical drama “Bridgerton” is returning. Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) has been giving her Colin (Luke Newton) longing looks for two seasons. But the third oldest Bridgerton son seems to be blind to it. And not just him. While the entire London high society is talking about the leaflets in which Penelope, under the pseudonym Lady Whistledown, cleverly and with a sharp tongue spreads the gossip about those best circles, hardly anyone notices the author. That is finally changing. With great feelings, erotic scenes, the classic interpretation of modern pop music and the decision not only to show white actors as aristocrats in 19th century England, the series has been causing a stir since 2020. As in Julia Quinn’s novel, the film adaptation by producer Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy”) focuses on one love relationship in each season. There is no end in sight yet – after all, not all eight Bridgerton children are under the hood and Netflix has already promised a fourth season. The first episodes of the third season can now be seen on the streaming service from May 16th, the others will follow on June 13th.

“The Tattooist of Auschwitz” (Sky)

In 1942, during the Second World War, the Slovakian Jew Lali (Jonah Hauer-King) was deported by the Nazis to the German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau. There he has to stab identification numbers on the arms of his fellow prisoners when they arrive. He meets the young Gita (Anna Próchniak): it’s love at first sight. Under constant surveillance by the unpredictable SS officer Stefan Baretzki (Jonas Nay), Lali and Gita are determined to keep each other alive. Around 60 years later, Lali (Harvey Keitel) meets aspiring writer Heather Morris (Melanie Lynskey). As an 80-year-old, he finds the courage to tell stories. He is confronted with the traumatic experiences of his youth and relives how he fell in love in the terrible place. The series “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” is based on the experiences of Lali Sokolov and is inspired by Heather Morris’ bestseller of the same name. Now on Sky and Wow.

“The Actor” (Arte media library)

The two freelance actors Ali and Morteza make today’s Tehran their stage. In order to make ends meet financially, they take on the most unusual orders. They are hired for marriage proposals or the rich’s parties and deceive their unwitting audience in their clever skits. Although the actors are outstanding at what they do, the salaries are barely enough to live on – and certainly not to fulfill their dream of owning their own, independent theater. The eight-part series from Iran is a homage to acting. The Séries Mania 2023 festival in Lille has awarded director Nima Javidi’s series debut with the main prize. Eight parts – now available in the Arte media library.
