Activists throw soup at “Mona Lisa” – culture

Two activists from the collective “Riposte Alimentaire” (Retaliation for Food) threw soup at the “Mona Lisa” in the Louvre in Paris. They threw the soup against the bulletproof glass that protects the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci. According to a journalist from the AFP news agency, the two women were demanding the right to “healthy and sustainable food” during their action. In a video from the CL Press agency, they can be heard shouting “Our agricultural system is sick.”

Most recently, in May 2022, a visitor to the museum threw a piece of cake at the “Mona Lisa”. However, the painting in the protective display case was not damaged in the attack. Since there have been several attacks on the painting in the past, the painting has been behind protective glass for several years.

The 77 by 53 centimeter Renaissance painting is the Louvre’s most famous exhibit. It was created at the beginning of the 16th century.
