US policeman is shot dead on his first shift
A 26-year-old policeman was shot dead in the US state of Georgia on his first day on duty. Apparently it was an act of revenge.
Working as a cop and fighting crime was Dylan Harrison’s big dream. In fact, the American had this dream come true: He had got a job with the police in Alamo in the US state of Georgia. But even his first shift ended fatally for him.
As reported by the CBS news channel, Harrison was shot dead in front of the local police station on his first day at work. A 43 year old man was arrested as an alleged perpetrator. He is said to have killed the policeman in revenge for arresting a friend of his. Harrison was 26 years old, leaving behind his wife and a six-month-old child.
Harrison had just started his job with the police force. According to media reports, however, he has worked for law enforcement agencies since 2018 and supported an anti-drug unit. During his first shift, he arrested a man at a traffic stop after he refused to show his identity. Apparently it was an accomplice of the later murderer.
Dylan Harrison’s murderer was initially able to flee
The Georgia authorities said that the act was likely to be retaliatory. The alleged perpetrator ambushed Harrison at around 1 a.m. in front of the police station and shot him. The shooter was then able to flee, the police wrote him out to be wanted and offered a reward of $ 17,500 for clues that led to his capture.
After a 38 hour search, the man was caught. The authorities had previously triggered a so-called “Blue Alert”, a warning about a fugitive who could pose a danger to the population.
