Farmers prevented Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck from leaving a ferry. After the protest, Habeck still made it home.

Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) finally reached the mainland on Friday night after being prevented from leaving a ferry from the Hallig Hooge by angry farmers. “Mr Habeck arrived home safely,” said a spokesman for the Flensburg police on Friday morning. The Minister of Economic Affairs took a special ferry and arrived home around 2:30 a.m. There were no further protests either. Habeck’s spokesman also confirmed Habeck’s arrival on the mainland.

Angry farmers prevented the Vice Chancellor from leaving a ferry on Thursday. More than a hundred demonstrators blocked the pier in Schlüttsiel. Habeck therefore had to return to the Hallig Hooge.

Around 30 officers were on duty, said a police spokesman. They also used pepper spray. Nothing was known of any injuries. The federal government and politicians from the Greens, FDP and CDU criticized the protest. The farmers are outraged because of the traffic light coalition’s planned reduction in subsidies.
