As the Federal Statistical Office reports according to preliminary results, the Deutschlandticket introduced on May 1, 2023, among other things, contributed to the increase in passenger numbers. The number of passengers had already increased in 2022, among other things due to the 9 euro ticket, which was available for three months in summer 2022.

In addition to the Deutschlandticket, the estimated increase in the population by 0.3 million to 84.7 million at the end of 2023 may also have contributed to the increase in passengers, as the statistics authority announced.
