According to “Kicker”: Nagelsmann is among the top candidates at FC Bayern

Who will be Thomas Tuchel’s successor at FC Bayern? There is a lot of speculation. One of Munich’s top candidates is said to be an old acquaintance: Julian Nagelsmann.
The name Nagelsmann is therefore being “hotly discussed” at the office of the German soccer record champions, but opinions about him are “widely differing”. Nagelsmann moved from RB Leipzig to Munich in the summer of 2021, but had to leave in March 2023.
“I know that the whole public is interested in this and that everyone wants to share in the thoughts we have,” said Bayern Munich’s sports director Max Eberl on Saturday evening after the 2-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund about speculation about Nagelsmann.

“But I’ve said it often enough, we’ll check it out and that’s why Xabi’s decision no longer affected me at all because we’d been traveling somewhere else for a long time,” said Eberl.
Bayern’s preferred candidate to succeed Tuchel, who has to leave a year before his contract actually ends this summer, was Xabi Alonso (42). But the Spaniard is staying with Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
“My duty is of course to check it out, but not to negotiate with him, not to talk to him. That’s why not a rejection, but to check it out,” said Eberl. That had been clarified for a long time, “and now we are heading in other directions.”

Instead of Julian Nagelsmann: What about Rangnick or De Zerbi?
According to the media, in addition to Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick (65), Austria’s national coach, and Roberto De Zerbi (44) from Brighton & Hove Albion from the English Premier League are among the coaching candidates from the summer. The English newspaper “Times” also named these three names on Tuesday. According to the “Kicker”, world star Zinedine Zidane (51) is “generally not a big issue” on Säbener Straße. Zidane doesn’t speak German, which is reportedly seen as a hindrance.
As national coach, Nagelsmann is contractually bound to the German Football Association until after the home European Championships in the summer, which in turn would like to extend the contract before the event. “I can imagine two things, association or club,” Nagelsmann said recently and wanted clarity about his future before the tournament.
