A boat with tourists sails across a lake in China. But the trip ends in a fatal disaster. Apparently many of the people on board were not wearing life jackets.

In a boating accident on one Twelve people have died and more than a dozen have been injured in a dam in the Chinese province of Hebei. The excursion boat with 31 people on board did not have an operating license and capsized on the lake in the village of Taolinkou on Saturday afternoon (local time), the authorities said on Sunday night. The scene of the accident is approximately 250 kilometers east of the capital Beijing.

According to authorities, strong winds caused the boat to overturn. The tourists fell into the water – including many elderly people who were not wearing life jackets.

The fire department was on duty with several lifeboats and search teams. More than a dozen survivors were rescued from the water. Another twelve people were declared dead. The police are investigating the cause of the accident.
