Dozens of people were injured in a collision between a coach and a truck on the A 12 Berlin-Frankfurt (Oder) on Tuesday afternoon. The accident happened between Storkow (Oder-Spree district) and Friedersdorf (Dahme-Spreewald district).

A spokesman for the East Police Department spoke of 35 injuries, including six seriously injured. Civil protection was in action, and three rescue helicopters were also on site. The A 12 east of Berlin was completely blocked in both directions for several hours. In the meantime, at least on the lane towards Poland, it has been released again. The lane in the direction of Berlin, which is directly affected by the accident, remains completely closed, a police spokesman said on Tuesday afternoon.

According to initial information, a truck heading towards Berlin tried to change lanes. He drove into a truck driving ahead and collided sideways with the coach. According to the police spokesman, one of the trucks is a dangerous goods vehicle, but it was traveling without a load. The truck’s tank is normally filled with diesel, a police spokesman said on Tuesday afternoon. The coach involved in the accident came from Poland and, according to the police, was occupied by Polish young people and adults.
