Gündalein’s performance at the “Sound of Munich Now” – Munich

The training jacket alone makes a statement. Black with white Playboy bunny on the back. “I think that many women don’t dare to do hip-hop because they know how much sexism there is in the scene. That also put me off for years,” said Isabel Leila Gütlein, who calls herself Gündalein as a musician. once said in an SZ interview. Today Gündalein is a role model for many musicians in Munich. She fought her way through, even if she was often laughed at at the beginning.

Hip hop from a woman? For years in Munich only Ebow was associated with it, but that was years ago and the musician has been living in Berlin for a long time. Thanks to Gündalein, a lot has now happened in Munich. John Dash, for example, initiated the “Female Hip Hop Open Tracks” in the Bahnwachter Thiel, there was once the “Women’s Jam” in the Bellevue di Monaco – but that’s exactly what shows a problem. Whenever several women are booked for a show, people quickly talk about a women’s event. This is also why Gündalein would like female rappers to be booked for a regular hip-hop evening. How can this be achieved? “Hit after Hit”, also a song in Gündalein’s show.

The Munich show took a break for three years due to the pandemic and transformed into a successful digital festival. The return to celebrations will take place in November 2023 – but the organizers still didn’t want to do without videos. Thanks to the support of the Cultural Department of the City of Munich and the Jugendkulturwerk, the Ideal Entertainment video crew is once again in action, filming the performances of the 20 bands with six cameras. One song at a time is selected, edited, mastered – From now on, a video will be played every two or three weeks.

“I can feel it in the air, I can feel it everywhere,” sings Gündalein at the “Sound of Munich Now” festival. It has flow, it puts you in a good mood, the audience taps along rhythmically. It’s an energetic mix of rap verses and sung hooks, accompanied by a rhythmic trap beat, with ESC Rilla providing the background as always. He is a rapper himself and Gündalein’s fiancé. Together they founded the Rap Academy in Bellevue di Monaco. “We’ll see each other very soon,” promises Gündalein at the end of the show. There are now many opportunities to do this – last year alone she played more than 100 shows. It’s tiring, but it’s a great show every time.
