One day before the Oscars, the “Golden Raspberry” is awarded, the ridiculous prize for poor acting performance. This year it hits Oscar-winning Hollywood greats like Tom Hanks, but also the distributors themselves.
You don’t like to receive every award: Tom Hanks and Jared Leto are now also recipients of the “Golden Raspberry”, the ridiculous prize for poor acting performances. This was announced by the lenders of the gilded berries in a video message. The “Razzies” (derived from the English word “raspberry”) are traditionally announced the day before the Oscars.
Double raspberry happiness for Tom Hanks
Leto received the award in the “Worst Actor” category. With this, the committee recognized his role as the vampire-like anti-hero in the comic adaptation “Morbius”. Hanks received double vilification for his supporting role as music executive Tom Parker in the biopic “Elvis” and for the category “Worst Screen Couple”. The couple in this particular instance consisted of Hanks and his latex face mask. Additionally, critics objected to his “ridiculous” accent in the film.
In addition to Hanks and Leto, the biographical drama “Blonde” with Ana de Armas in the role of Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe won two of the top-class berries. There were awards for both “worst film” and “worst screenplay”. However, De Armas is in the running for the Oscar for Best Actress on Sunday.
This year, however, the jury chose itself as the worst actress. This was in response to heavy criticism after twelve-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong was among the nominations in January with the film “Firestarter”. The nomination was reversed and at the same time a minimum age of 18 years was introduced for the award ceremony.
Rehabilitation for Collin Farrell
The “Razzies Redeemer Award” is given to formerly reviled actors who, in the opinion of the committee, should be taken seriously again through outstanding performances. This year, Irish actor Collin Farrell has had his reputation restored for his role in the tragic comedy The Banshees Of Inisherin, which could also earn Farrell a Best Actor Oscar on Sunday. In 2005 he was nominated in the “Razzies” as the worst actor for the monumental film “Alexander”.
The Golden Raspberry was created by filmmaker John Wilson as a counterpart to the glamorous Academy Awards. According to earlier information from the group, a good thousand members in the USA and other countries vote on the ridiculous price.
