The US Supreme Court has overturned the 1973 landmark “Roe vs. Wade” ruling on abortion rights. The reactions to this are as divided as the country:

Former US President donald trump has hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn nationwide abortion rights as a decision from God. “God decided that”, the 76-year-old told Fox News. The step is in line with the constitution and should have happened “a long time ago”.

His son Donald Trump Jr celebrated the decision as his father’s victory. “Proud of my dad for what he accomplished today,” he wrote on Twitter. His father appointed three Supreme Court judges for “our movement” who oppose liberal abortion rules.

Biden on Roe vs. Wade: “A tragic mistake”

US President Joe Biden has called the Supreme Court’s historic decision a “tragic error”. “It is, in my view, the realization of an extreme ideology and a tragic error on the part of the Supreme Court,” Biden said in Washington on Friday. It was a “sad day for the court and the country”.

Of the Democrat leader Chuck Schumer appeared shocked. “Today is one of the darkest days our country has ever seen,” the Senate Majority Leader wrote on Twitter. American women have the right to have an abortion Trump– “stolen” from close judges.

Canada’s Liberal Premier justin Trudeausaid: “No government, politician or man should tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her body.” He assured Canadian women to stand up for their right to abortion. The news from neighboring USA is “terrifying”.

Of the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson commented on the decision as a “big step backwards”. He was always of the opinion that the decision should lie with the women.

German politicians were just as dismayed: “This morning I was allowed to vote for the abolition of paragraph 219a. And now I have tears in my eyes when I read that ‘Roe vs. Wade’ was overturned in the USA,” tweeted Grünen -Co-boss Ricarda Lang.

Federal Minister of Home Affairs Lisa Paus (Greens) was “stunned”: “It has been proven that a ban on abortions does not lead to fewer abortions, it puts pregnant women at risk because they are denied a safe and medically supervised abortion.”
