Marriage off after around 40 years: ABBA musician Björn Ulvaeus and his wife Lena are getting divorced. The two want to remain close friends.

The ABBA star Björn Ulvaeus (76) and his wife Lena (73) have separated after more than 41 years of marriage. The two announced this in a joint statement. “After many happy and eventful years, we have decided to divorce,” the couple explained. The two married in 1981 and have two adult children: Emma and Anna.

Despite the separation, they want to remain close friends and also strive to celebrate together at grandchildren’s birthdays or other family celebrations in the future, according to the announcement, which is available to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, among others. The two met in 1978 at a New Year’s party at the home of Björn’s ABBA colleagues Benny Andersson (75) and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (76). A few years ago, Björn said in an interview with the Swedish newspaper “Dagens Nyheter” that it “clicked immediately” for both of them.

Love hit ABBA star “like lightning”

Just a few days before meeting Lena for the first time, he broke up with ABBA singer Agnetha Fältskog (71). Nevertheless, his love for Lena “hit him like lightning,” Ulvaeus continued. It was very strange for him at the time to stumble straight into such a great love after about a week as a bachelor. Björn and Lena Ulvaeus have been living together since 1990 in a villa on the small island of Vagaskär in the Djursholm district of Stockholm.

ABBA only released an album last year after a break of around 40 years. “Voyage” made it to number one in the album charts in numerous countries – including Germany, Norway, Sweden and Great Britain. The first single “I Still Have Faith in You” reached third place in Germany.
