The Swedish pop group Abba will celebrate its 50th birthday next year. Several casinos in Las Vegas are currently vying to bring the four-piece band back onto the stage. It’s about billions.

“Oldie but goldie”: Hardly any other band in the music business applies this sentence better than the four Swedes Abba. In Las Vegas, three casinos are currently negotiating the rights to the show “Voyage” in the desert city of Nevada.

After 40 years, the “Money, Money, Money” singers made a comeback with their album “Voyage” this year and climbed to the top of the charts. In just one week they sold over 200,000 albums in Germany. In addition, the start of a virtual hologram show with the avatars of the four band members Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson is planned for the end of May in London. Another concert hall is being built especially for this big event, where the avatars will then perform twice every evening and on the weekend.

Abba show in Las Vegas costs around a billion pounds

The more than successful fifth studio album after a 40-year hiatus and the hype surrounding the planned Avatar Show are reason enough for the world’s largest entertainment city, Las Vegas, to show interest in the series of events. Three of the largest casinos MGM Resorts, Caesars Palace and Resorts World are supposed to compete for the location for the virtual copies of the Swedes after London.

The negotiations for the license for the Abba Avatar Show are said to be still in the early stages, but it is already transpiring that this is supposed to be a billion-dollar deal. A billion pounds (around 1.2 billion euros) could be worth one of the three casinos to be able to host the show expected from 2024.

Abba member Björn Ulvaeus says about the show: “As avatars we are immortal, we were the first to put on such a show and the first are always remembered.” It remains to be seen which casino will receive the approval in the end, because “The Winner Takes It All”, as it is so beautifully called in one of Abbas’ most famous songs.
