A9 near Garching: Waste container wedged in the sign bridge – district of Munich

A high level of property damage and a long traffic jam were the result of a spectacular-looking accident on the A 9 motorway near Garching on Monday morning. According to a police report, shortly after the Garching-Süd junction, the hydraulic cover of a waste container that was being transported by a truck opened and wedged itself in a gantry. A technical defect is suspected as the reason. While the vehicle was removed from the second lane relatively quickly, a crane had to be called in to remove the cover. Traffic was diverted to the three left lanes, but the congestion on the A 9 or on the transition from the A 99 to the A 9 at times extended to more than two kilometers. The 50-year-old truck driver was not injured. According to conservative estimates, the damage to the sign bridge amounts to around 100,000 euros, according to the press report from the Freising Police Inspectorate. The container suffered damage of around 5,000 euros. In order to ensure the safety of the bridge, a structural engineer must now be consulted. The damage to the container is around 5000 euros. The Munich fire brigade and the Munich North motorway maintenance department were deployed to secure the scene of the accident.
