An 18-year-old young man has been indicted for several rapes against his girlfriend. The acts with which she is accused were allegedly committed in June 2021, when the teenager was 13 years old, in the toilets of the high school building of the National Institute for Deaf Youth in Paris. The Parisian indicates this Friday that the investigation made it possible to identify a second student of the same age on whom the young man would have imposed several sexual relations in 2023 outside the establishment.
The suspect was placed under judicial supervision and a judicial investigation into rape of minors was initiated. In police custody, the suspect told the police that these relationships were consensual and described the two young girls as “sexually provocative”. The National Institute for Deaf Youth did not wish to provide comments to the Ile-de-France daily.
No precise statistics
If no figures exist concerning sexual violence suffered by the hearing impaired, a Senate report spoke in 2019 of 34% of disabled women having already suffered physical or sexual violence from their partner. Among able-bodied women, the figure is 19%.
“Deaf women are not necessarily aware that they have been victims of violence because it is trivialized,” analyzed Shirley Tong On, vice-president of the Deaf Citizens and Solidarity association. And if they are aware of it, most are too afraid to testify. When they dare to do so, they find themselves excluded from their community of life.”
