A year of war in Ukraine: why Putin will probably not win. – Opinion

Even if you wish it were otherwise: there is probably no peace to be made with Vladimir Putin and the Russia that he governs and embodies autocratically. There will be negotiations at some point – but unfortunately probably only when the Russian army is in an even worse condition than it is today. The West in particular must not lose sight of the negotiating option. But still there is no do-ut-des situation, no “give so that you may be given”. There is an aggressor and he wants to keep fighting. The only way Ukraine can counter this is with war and the West with resolute support for those attacked.
