A woman fights against loneliness and for life in the village. As a “carer”

Deniz Öz works as a “carer” in Heiligengrabe in Brandenburg. It brings people together and revitalizes the almost forgotten village life. Along the way, she battles a powerful enemy: Loneliness.

When she started her new job, says Deniz Öz, the residents of Heiligengrabe first took care of her – the caretaker. They took her by the hand and introduced the native Berliner to the village in Ostprignitz with a coffee wreath and a game of rummy. That was in 2017. “I don’t know anyone,” Öz said more to himself at the time, “but I’m here. What would people like?”
