A village sells its district court on Leboncoin

Until 2009, the small town of Bourganeuf, in Creuse, still had a district court. Small civil cases were judged there, such as neighborhood disputes, certain official documents were issued and traffic violations were dealt with.

But after the Dati tornado passed through Justice, this jurisdiction closed, like many others in France. For Creuse, everything now happens in Guéret, 30 km away.

Since then, the majestic building has deteriorated despite the attention given to it by the city, which owns the place. An attention which is expensive and which the town hall would like to do without. So, at the beginning of March, it was decided to sell the court, just to give it a second life but above all to save money. An announcement was posted on the municipality’s website, accompanied by another, sur Leboncoin

The cheapest price per m2 in France

We learn that the court, “in neoclassical style”, was built in the 1850s. That it has two floors, “made up of a succession of rooms, offices, toilets with the audience room”. Eleven rooms for a total surface area of 418 m2. With a starting price of 30,000 euros, we undoubtedly have the cheapest price per m2 in France!

On paper, this looks like a very good deal, provided you want to settle in the Creuse. However, the buyer will need to take into account a few small details. Although the building is not listed in the inventory of historic monuments, it is nevertheless located in a “classified zone”. The announcement also mentions a blank energy performance diagnosis (DPE), which is not good news. As the court has been unoccupied for fifteen years, the expert assessment was unable to provide any indication of its energy consumption, its thermal comfort or its degree of insulation.

That doesn’t stop you from falling in love, especially if you want to have a little fun and set up your bed in the middle of an authentic courtroom. Note that there is also a small garden behind the building, not overlooked, ideal for roasting merguez in the shade of Justice. But hurry, the town hall has assured 20 minutes that there were “an awful lot” of people interested.
